And Just Like That… Season 3: Everything We Know

Love it or hate it, And Just Like That… will be back for a third season. The much-buzzed about Sex and the City reboot was renewed just days ahead of its season 2 finale on Max in August 2023.

“We are thrilled to spend more time in the ‘Sex And The City’ universe telling new stories about the lives of these relatable and aspirational characters played by these amazing actors,” executive producer Michael Patrick King said in a statement. “And Just Like That… here comes season three.”

With each episode sparking discourse weekly, the series’ popularity is undeniable. In fact, AJLT has become the most-watched original title on Max, the streaming platform’s head of original content, Sarah Aubrey, said in a statement. It’s no wonder the brand is eager to keep the momentum going.

Here’s what else we know.

When will season 3 come out?

We can expect some production delays following the writers and actors strikes, so it will take longer than usual for AJLT to return to our screens. During a November 2 presentation to press, HBO and Max chief Casey Bloys confirmed that the AJLT writers have “stared writing” the scripts for season 3, but the start date for production is still unclear.

Sure enough, HBO confirmed in a December 6 sizzle reel that the Sex and the City reboot won’t come back until 2025. In a February 2024 report, Variety stated that production would begin “later this year.”

Who will be in the cast?

This past season, the cast comprised of: Sarah Jessica Parker (Carrie), Cynthia Nixon (Miranda), Kristin Davis (Charlotte), Sara Ramírez (Che), Sarita Choudhury (Seema), Nicole Ari Parker (Lisa), Karen Pittman (Nya), Mario Cantone (Anthony), David Eigenberg (Steve), Evan Handler (Harry), Christopher Jackson (Herbert), Niall Cunningham (Brady), Cathy Ang (Lily), and Alexa Swinton (Rock).

Ramírez, however, reportedly won’t return to season 3, Variety reported on February 26. Sources told the outlet the exit was due to Che and Miranda’s breakup at the end of the season, which marked a natural conclusion for the character, and not because of Ramírez’s pro-Palestine posts and support for a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war on social media. According to The Hollywood Reporter, though, the scripts are still being written, and there could still be room for Che to make a brief appearance in an episode.

John Corbett was also part of the season 2 cast, reprising his role as Aidan, but it’s unclear if he’ll return in season 3, especially as his and Carrie’s relationship ended in vague but rocky territory in the season 2 finale. We’ll just have to watch and see.

It’s also unclear if Kim Cattrall will make yet another cameo as Samantha (she’s set to appear in a scene in the season 2 finale). It might not be likely, but we’re holding out hope!

We’re still waiting to hear about possible new additions to the cast too.

What will season 3 be about?

Season 2 saw Carrie rekindling her relationship with Aidan, Miranda investing in her law career after breaking up with Che, and Charlotte going back to work at an art gallery after years of being a stay-at-home mom. What adventures will season 3 bring?

The season 2 finale gave us some big hints about where things could go next. (Spoilers ahead!) Carrie and Aidan agree to take a five-year (?!) break, which creates room for Carrie to once again explore her single era. The fact that she ends the season on a beach in Greece with Seema could be the start of some fun adventures between the two of them. Seema is technically in a relationship with film director Ravi, but with him being away on a film shoot for five months, who knows what she’ll be up to.

Miranda might explore a romance with her new acquaintance Joy, who meets her on the set of her BBC interview and stays out talking with her all night. Charlotte seems to be further embracing this new chapter of her career, and juggling responsibilities (fairly) with Harry as working parents. Lisa and Herbert have gained a new perspective after she miscarries, accepting that God will have something else in store for them. And the rest—Mario and Giuseppe, Nya and Chef Toussaint, and Che and Toby—seem to be diving into new relationships.
