The 2024 Golden Globes has arrived, and Cailee Spaeny is the latest rising star to walk the red carpet. For the awards show, Spaeny wore a 1950s-style tea-length floral-print dress featuring a sweetheart neckline and sheer corseted bodice. She accessorized the look with a sparkling diamond necklace; she opted to keep her makeup fresh and minimal and wore her hair in a chic side-parted bob.
The actress was nominated for Best Performance by a Female in a Motion Picture – Drama for her leading role in the biopic Priscilla alongside Jacob Elordi, who played Elvis.
In a November 2023 interview with Deadline, Spaeny spoke about her role as Priscilla and the connection she felt to Mrs. Presley. She spoke about how quitting high school to become an actor was a risky but important decision, similar to Presley’s choice to leave her family stationed in Germany to move in with Elvis when she was 17.
“We were the same age when we had this conviction, ‘Well, this is my life and I want this and I’m a teenager, but…’ Like Priscilla’s family, my family made incredible sacrifices to support that decision,” Spaeny told Deadline. “And you’re not only having to get it right for yourself, but also make sure that you don’t let them down.”
After Presley watched the movie at the Venice premiere, she reportedly said to Spaeny, “That was a great performance. I watched my life through you.”
Spaeny also spoke about first meeting Elordi and how they connected over their mutual love for cinema.
“The first night we met, we went and saw Gilda, the Rita Hayworth film, which ended up being one of Sofia’s references. Then we just hung out,” she shared. “We were in London at the same time, and we just became really close. Very quickly, I learned that he approaches roles in the same way I do. Basically, we’re just two nerds. We’re really intense about these things. We barely ever hung out when we were filming because we were just so in it”
