This spring, Gomez revealed on Rare Beauty’s Instagram that she had gone blonde. Nikki Lee and Riawna Capri, who have been styling the artist’s hair for more than 10 years, were in charge of the transformation.
“This blonde is unique to [Selena], as we had to make sure there was an equal balance of cool and warm for her skin tone,” the duo said over email to ELLE.com. “It’s an edgier look and perfect for summer.” They continued: “She typically keeps it pretty natural, but this time she went for a big change.”
This past week, Gomez and her makeup artist Hung Vanngo teamed up to do a makeover with the Rare Beauty line. Using Gomez as a model, Vanngo used the makeup to show how to transform a summer day look into a night look.

In the video, she spoke about how lupus can affect her skin and how makeup helps her in those times:
“I have lupus, which is an autoimmune disease where I can’t spend a lot of time in the sun,” she said when Vanngo was applying foundation. “When I break out, I get hives all over my body and so what I love about knowing my shades for when I’m a little bit more pale and knowing my shades for when I get a spray tan or something something outside so it’s actually really nice to have two different options of the foundation [a lighter option in the winter and a slightly darker one in the summer].”
