Silo Season 3: What We Know So Far

Some spoilers below.

The Apple TV+ sci-fi series Silo sure knows how to deliver a whopping cliffhanger. Season 1 ended with a revelation; season 2 ended with multiple. Now that Rebecca Ferguson’s Juliette Nichols has been forced to contend with the erupting flames of Silo 18’s air lock, what’s in store for her people underground? And with the addition of new faces—namely, the congressman and reporter introduced in the final minutes of the season 2 finale—will season 3 take place across dual timelines, before the silos were created and after Silo 18’s attempted rebellion? Only showrunner Graham Yost and his cast and crew can be sure. In the meantime, here’s what we humble audiences know so far.

Will there be a Silo season 3?

Yes. In fact, as Yost revealed in a post-finale interview with The Wrap, season 3 is already in the midst of filming. And the show has also been renewed for a fourth and final season, as Apple TV+ shared back in December 2024.

Will all of the Silo books get adapted?

Absolutely, though expect some additional content changes along the way. As Yost told The Wrap, “Five weeks into season 1, we knew we were going to do the whole thing,” meaning that the entire book series would be adapted for the newly greenlit seasons 3 and 4. But it wasn’t until much more recently that audiences learned the same.

When will Silo season 3 come out?

According to Yost, scripts for season 2 were written before season 1 had even wrapped, and scripts for season 3 were mostly finalized ahead of the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. That means the production was poised to move right along when the strikes lifted, and season 3 is now in the midst of filming in early 2025.

Barring any unexpected delays, we could see a shorter gap between seasons 2 and 3 than we did 1 and 2. Silo season 1 dropped its first episodes in May 2023, with season 2 starting in November 2024. If that timeline is shortened thanks to the production’s well-oiled machine, we might see season 3 arrive in early 2026. But that’s pure speculation for now.

Who will be in the Silo season 3 cast?

First glimpsed in the final moments of the season 2 finale, actors Ashley Zukerman and Jessica Henwick will join the season 3 cast as recurring characters, per The Wrap. Zukerman will play Daniel, a congressman for Georgia, while Henwick joins as Helen, a Post reporter.

The remaining season 3 cast has yet to be announced, but we can likely anticipate the return of Ferguson (Juliette Nichols), Common (Robert Sims), Harriet Walter (Martha Walker), Chinaza Uche (Paul Billings), Shane McRae (Knox), Remmie Milner (Shirley Campbell), Alexandria Riley (Camille Sims), Clare Perkins (Carla McClain), and perhaps even Steve Zahn (Jimmy/Solo) and his Silo 17 cohort.

What will Silo season 3 be about?

Given the addition of Zukerman and Henwick as series regulars, we can expect a lot of season 3 to cover the “before times,” set in the years preceding the silos’ creation. We first encounter this flashback timeline at the end of the season 2 finale, when Zukerman and Henwick’s characters, Daniel and Helen, meet in a Washington, D.C. bar and discuss a “dirty” bomb.

As Yost laid out for The Wrap, “a lot of season 3 is about memory,” and therefore will focus on the past. But don’t expect the silos themselves to be forgotten. Plenty of screen time in season 3 will, apparently, be devoted to both Silos 17 and 18.

“There are a lot of mysteries about Silo 17,” Yost said. “The chief one being that all those people went outside; they had an hour to get outside. They didn’t all die in three minutes. What the fuck happened out there? That’s gonna be part of season 3. You’ll get the answers to all of that. And then there are other things you don’t find out until season 4.”

Are Bernard and Juliette dead at the end of season 2?

We can’t be sure yet. But if I were a betting woman, I’d say yes to Bernard, no to Juliet. Yost told The Wrap, “I will also say to those who have read the books, Bernard dies at the end of [book 1, Wool]; he’s gone. So I would just say that. No one is safe in this show, as we showed in season 1.”
