Fall is in full swing and there are so many yummy trends going on right now! If you haven’t gone out and snapped up the essentials, you really should: booties, the blanket scarf, satchel purse, and a nice deep merlot lipstick, just to name a few. And let’s not forget one of our staple favorites, the plaid shirt! You may be thinking that the plaid shirt limits you to just blue jeans and boots, but this versatile little piece can do so oh-so-much more!
- Paired with light-colored jeans and heels – If you don’t know by now that the whole “don’t wear white after Labor Day” thing is a myth, it is (not to mention that it is totally ridiculous). So, mix things up by pairing your comfy plaid shirt with white skinny jeans and either black or nude strappy stilettos (depending on if your plaid shirt is predominantly darker or lighter in color).
- Paired with a t-shirt and leather-look pants – This look is so fab and edgy! Wear your plaid shirt open over a body-con t-shirt, and skinny leather-look pants. To keep it from looking too “tough” and boyish, add a strappy high-heeled sandal or stiletto-heel peep-toe bootie. If you hate tucking shirts in, it might look messy if left untucked…so let’s compromise. Go for a half-tuck. Still casual, but not confining.
- Paired with a leather mini and low-to-mid heeled boots – Again, the leather-look mini is going to add a delightful edginess to this outfit. You can again reach for a body-con tee and wear it with the plaid shirt open over it, or you can opt for simply wearing the plaid shirt by itself (buttoned, of course). But, in order to avoid looking too risqué, pair it with mid or low-heeled ankle boots instead of heels. If you absolutely must wear heels, go for a chunkier platform pump.
- Paired with a t-shirt, shorts, and a long cardigan or jacket – Depending on how chilly it is where you are, this one might be tough to pull off, at least without wearing tights under the shorts (which can look very chic and boho, if done correctly). But, for the basic outfit, layer your plaid shirt over a body-con tee (you could also skip the tee and wear the plaid buttoned up), with distressed denim shorts (on the loose side), and top it with a long, roomy cardigan. For shoes, you can either opt for a pair of chunky, low-heeled boots, or simple flats.
Hopefully these gave you some good ideas to restyle your classic, well-loved plaid shirt this Fall! And if you don’t have a classic, well-loved plaid shirt…let’s get shopping!
