Remember when you went back to school and your parents would buy you clothing to start the year fresh? You don’t have to stop that tradition when you go to college. So many people buy brand new clothes to start their college careers, but they don’t realize that their clothing wears out faster than it used to, and not just because of the freshman fifteen. Since you walk everywhere, you tend to ruin your clothing that much faster.
Here are a few clothes to purchase before you start college again:
Sneakers
Whether you are going to the gym, walking to class, or just trying to keep your wits about you on move-in day, your sneakers are probably worn out from the year before. So many of us keep sneakers for way too long, which can be bad for our health and our bodies.
Purchase a new pair of smart sneakers for the year – or more than one pair. Athletic sneakers, causal wear sneakers, and even dressier sneakers are on the market right now.
Sweater
From the lecture hall to your dorm room to those slightly cold morning walks to the cafeteria, a great sweater is the most versatile item in your wardrobe. They can take one outfit and make it more casual, like a dress you normally wear to go out but need it for a presentation or a way to make your traditional tank top and leggings look at least a little more put together.
(In a bind, they even make great pillows for the library!)
Blazer
As you start to take higher level classes, your college wardrobe is going to call for something a little more mature. Purchasing a great blazer that you can wear to your classes, to your internship, and even on job interviews will help you to impress all of the people that matter.
Look for a blazer that is in a darker or neutral color so that you can wear it with different types of outfits.
Jacket
We talked a lot about about covering yourself, but that is always key for the school year. If you don’t go home quite a bit, you want to take at least some cold weather gear. Purchase a lightweight jacket that you can keep in storage while you are there. You might not need it before you go home for winter break, but it is better to have it and be safe than it is to be cold.
Going back to college is a time to get a fresh start and begin your transformation for who you will be – and using old clothing that no longer fits properly is not the way to do it. Here are a few pieces to repurchase before going into the next academic year.
