A Follow-Up Tiger King Episode Focused on the Infamous Siegfried & Roy Attack Is Coming

More content continues to roar out of Netflix’s Tiger King. The Hollywood Reporter reports that Eric Goode and Rebecca Chaiklin, the filmmakers behind the hit docuseries, are working on a follow-up episode that will shed light on the 2003 tiger mauling incident that ended Siegfried & Roy’s long-running show.

Netflix itself has not confirmed the follow-up. Instead it was Dr. James Liu, a wildlife vet and field biologist who is the associate director of Goode’s Turtle Conservancy and a member of Tiger King‘s production team. THR reports that on May 7, Liu requested contact information for Chris Lawrence, Siegfried & Roy’s former tiger handler for the Las Vegas show. The outlet had published a March 2019 profile on Lawrence that detailed his PTSD following the attack, which permanently injured Roy Horn. (On May 8, Horn died at age 75 of complications of COVID-19.)

After requesting Lawrence’s info, Liu suggested to THR that the Tiger King production team at Goode Films were working on the new episode. Liu also said that Goode, whom THR describes as “a prominent figure in global wildlife philanthropy,” hoped the episode would correct conservation issues not addressed in the original series or Joel McHale-hosted after show (the latter of which the filmmakers did not produce). Liu did not specify how Lawrence would be involved with the episode should he choose to participate.

The Hollywood Reporter noted that a spokeswoman for Goode Films said it was “untrue that the direction is going in a more conservational route” on the upcoming sequel installment. Calls for more Tiger King have persisted since the show debuted on March 20, and fans have several projects inspired by the show to look forward to. Nicolas Cage will play Joe Exotic, G.W. Zoo founder/country music star/former presidential nominee/prisoner, in a forthcoming scripted series. Kate McKinnon and Rob Lowe have teased their participation in separate projects, playing Big Cat Rescue’s Carole Baskin and Exotic, respectively. And Investigation Discovery will air a special focused on the disappearance of Baskin’s second husband.
