As season four of The Boys arrived on Amazon Prime Video, fans were aware there was one more season ahead. And it turns out that it will be the last. Showrunner Eric Kripke confirmed it himself in a tweet in June, writing, “Season 5 will be the Final Season! Always my plan, I just had to be cagey till I got the final OK from Vought. Thrilled to bring the story to a gory, epic, moist climax.”
While we hate to see it go, it will be a blow out season as it leaves. Here’s everything we know about The Boys season five so far.
What will season five of The Boys be about?
In an interview with Deadline, Kripke did not give many details, but he did say we should expect a time jump.
“I know that moment where the title card comes up and it says six months later, and you see where everybody is,” he said. “I know that. I can really write the last 10 pages of this story right now.”
Actress Claudia Doumit followed up on the death of her character Vice President-elect Victoria Neuman in an interview with Deadline as well.
“I think it’s a pretty permanent death,” she said. “It is time for Neuman’s story to be over. I fully believe that, because you have so many cool characters, that you have to wrap up their stories, and you only have one season left to do it. Actually, you only have eight episodes left to do it. You want to give them as much story time as those characters, like Butcher, Annie (Starlight) deserve. People have been watching those cool characters for four seasons now, so they should be the focus in the final season.”
Victoria’s death is pinned on her running mate, Robert Singer, which allows Homelander to take over under martial law, leaving our heroes in even more desperate straits. Especially after they’re rounded up and thrown in a van. The next season will likely show us where they ended up and how they’re going to defeat Homelander once and for all. Or not. This show isn’t big on happy endings.
Who will be in the cast of The Boys season five?
Most likely all the favorites who are still living: Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Jessie T. Usher, Laz Alonso, Chace Crawford, Tomer Capone, Karen Fukuhara, Colby Minifie, and Cameron Crovetti. Season Four welcomed Susan Heyward, Valorie Curry, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.
It has also been rumored that Jared Padalecki might make an appearance. He and Jensen Ackles, who plays Soldier Boy, starred in Kripke’s massively successful and long-running show Supernatural. Numerous cast members from the CW hit have appeared on The Boys and fans are constantly asking for a full reunion.
“We have talked [about a role]. I think at this point in my acting life, I only want to work on projects that I really care about or with people that I really care about, and obviously Eric and I are indelibly connected forever,” Padalecki said. “I adore him. I adore his humor. I adore him as a person, his storytelling. So I can’t wait. I don’t think [Season 5] films until next year, but I will be ready when he makes the phone call. I’ll just say ‘Okay, when am I flying out?’”
When will The Boys season five come out?
Kripke has suggested it would take about two years before the next season should be ready and season four just came out. So potentially 2026. He said the writer’s room assembled in June of this year.
“Usually from about when you start the writers room, and we started like about a month ago, five weeks ago, to when generally you hit the air, it’s about two years and change,” he explained. “I know where I want it to end up, but we spent the first probably four weeks of the room just talking about like overall mythology and where we want the story to go.”
