Meghan Markle has been busy with her weeks-old son Archie, which is perfect timing considering President Trump is headed to the U.K. for a state visit on June 3. Queen Elizabeth will be hosting Trump and his wife Melania when they come for their three-day trip, but Meghan is reportedly skipping the affair.
Prince Harry, however, will join Trump for a private palace lunch while Prince William and Kate will join Prince Charles and Camilla for the welcome ceremony at Buckingham Palace. Trump is also scheduled to have tea with William and Kate on his second day.
Markle has been vocal about her dislike of the president in the past, calling him “misogynistic” and “divisive.” Before marrying into the royal family, Markle was an outspoken supporter of Hillary Clinton during the 2016 election and encouraged her Instagram followers to vote for the democratic candidate.
During a 2016 interview on The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore, Markle offered her opinion on the then-candidate for the republican party.
“It’s really the moment I go; we film Suits in Toronto and I might just stay in Canada,” she said. “Yes, of course, Trump is divisive, think about female voters alone, right? I think it was in 2012 the Republican Party lost the female vote by 12 points; that is a huge number and with as misogynistic as Trump is, and so vocal about it, that is a huge chunk of it.”
She also explained why she would be voting for Clinton: “You’re not just voting for a woman if it’s Hillary because she’s a woman, but certainly because Trump has made it easy to see that you don’t really want that kind of world that he’s painting.”
It seems like the arrival of baby Archie couldn’t have come at a more convenient time.
