Selena Gomez has been laying low from the spotlight for some time now, but she’s getting ready to make a return to music. A source has told Entertainment Tonight that Gomez’s upcoming music will be “very personal.”

“Selena is in a really good place,” the source said. “She just celebrated her birthday in Italy and is really enjoying this time off before things ramp up again. Selena has been working on new music and plans to release some this year. The new music is going to be a different side of Selena and very personal. Selena has gone through a lot over the years and is ready to share it with the world.”

Last month, Gomez confirmed that she had been busy at work in the studio. During a premiere for her film The Dead Don’t Die, she enthusiastically answered to someone asking if she’d been working on new music.

“Yes!” she said, adding, “Yes! It’s finally done.”

Gomez recently shared a photo of her Italian vacation on Instagram wearing a floral-patterned dress writing, “Me, Italy -trying desperately to look like a Fellini film.” In another post, she thanked fans for the well wishes on her 27th birthday.

“Well I’m 27 now. I wanted to thank each and every one of you for your words on my bday. Not just the quick notes,” she said. “The thought that goes behind every word you write usually ends up with me crying grateful tears like I did last night. Praying for all of you!! I LOVE YOU.”
