It’s no secret that Serena Williams and Meghan Markle are good friends. Last May, when Meghan married Prince Harry, Williams showed up looking like a true royal, complete with her pink Versace dress and fascinator, it was clear that her friendship with the duchess was a deep one. So, naturally, when it comes to Meghan’s pregnancy, she’s got a few things to say. In an interview with E! News earlier this week, it looks like she might have gone a little too far when she possibly revealed the soon-to-be-born royal baby’s sex.
“My friend is pregnant, and she was like, ‘My kid’s gonna do this,’ [and] I just looked at her like, ‘No, she’s not,'” she said in the video interview.
While it’s easy to jump to all sorts of conclusions, Williams did not say her pregnant friend in question was Meghan. She spoke about Meghan at one point, saying, “She’ll be the best mom, for sure.” But in this particular segment, she simply said, “My friend.”
Even still, there was a little moment where Williams seemed to double back nervously. After saying “No, she’s not,” she smiled slightly and said, “No, you’re not,” as if to distract from her fumble.
Meghan and Harry have been famously keeping the sex of their child secret, though there were rumors that she told friends at her New York City baby shower that she was having a boy.
In her interview with E!, Williams, who gave birth to her daughter, Olympia, in September 2017, went on: “I had all those high expectations and then I had what I was going to do. I was gonna recover and I was gonna be great, and this is a time that everything is not going to go as planned,” she said while discussing what it felt like to be a new mom. “My whole life is so planned and this is the one time where it wasn’t. You just gotta go with the flow.”
