Taylor Swift’s new rainbow-filled era is very fitting for Pride month. The singer showed off a multi-colored ensemble while performing at the 2019 iHeartRadio Wango Tango concert, including a rainbow fringe denim jacket.
The Pride-appropriate outfit comes only one day after she posted a letter on Instagram to Tennessee Senator Lamar Alexander, asking him to support the Equality Act, and encouraging her followers to write their senators as well.
“HAPPY PRIDE MONTH!!! While we have so much to celebrate, we also have a great distance to go before everyone in this country is truly treated equally,” she wrote in the caption. “In excellent recent news, the House has passed the Equality Act, which would protect LGBTQ people from discrimination in their places of work, homes, schools, and other public accommodations. The next step is that the bill will go before the Senate. I’ve decided to kick off Pride Month by writing a letter to one of my senators to explain how strongly I feel that the Equality Act should be passed. I urge you to write to your senators too. I’ll be looking for your letters by searching the hashtag #lettertomysenator.”
Swift has become more outspoken over the past few months in discussing politics, using her platform to urge her fans to vote. While she had become known over her career for keeping mum on political issues, she finally broke her silence before the 2018 midterm elections in a lengthy Instagram post.
“In the past I’ve been reluctant to publicly voice my political opinions, but due to several events in my life and in the world in the past two years, I feel very differently about that now,” she wrote in October 2018. “I always have and always will cast my vote based on which candidate will protect and fight for the human rights.”
