Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle both usually do their own makeup for royal engagements. But Meghan’s decision to forgo a makeup artist doesn’t have anything to do with the fact that Kate doesn’t use one (or that she doesn’t want to seem more diva-like than her sister-in-law by having one) or any rule that royal family members are not allowed to have one, Us Weekly explains in a new report. It’s just personal preference.
“She just likes doing her own makeup. [It has] nothing to do with Kate,” a source told the outlet. “Meghan has her makeup done for some special occasions but likes to do it herself.”
This is not the first time it has been reported that Meghan does her own makeup. People was told by one of Meghan’s friends that the Duchess of Sussex is pretty much self-service for everything. “I was with her last month, and she was going on a public engagement. Harry and I were sitting with the dogs, and we were all chatty, and she’s painting her nails,” the friend told People. “Except for her wedding, she does all her own makeup. Dresses herself, styles herself.”
Meghan is also her own stylist, but she has received some advice from her sister-in-law. “Meghan has certainly turned to Kate for guidance and inspiration,” a source familiar with Meghan’s fashion process previously told ELLE.com.
Meghan wants to create looks that don’t distract from the work she’s doing. As a royal insider explained to ELLE.com in January, “Meghan is conscious of making her work wardrobe become too trend-conscious. Meghan is still new to this and aware everyone is still watching her, and wants to be respectful and doesn’t want her style to take away from the very important work she’s doing.”
