Sunglasses can absolutely make or break an outfit. In the last few weeks, we have noticed that designers are coming out with some great new sunglasses in shapes and styles we have never seen before – and that is a rare event. So often, we see the same shapes and styles over and over again.
Not that it is a bad thing! Sometimes, those shapes are quite popular for good reason: they are universally flattering, make for great protection from the sun, and create classic lines.
So which ones should you keep and which ones should go? Let’s take a look:
Aviators
Aviator glasses are a great trend because they are that classic shape that add a bit of edge to your style without going too far. It is best to lean into the style instead of just going for super thin metal though – go for a pair with some great details on the metal to add a look of fashion.
Just make sure that you get a pair that is dark enough – too light and you will look a bit like you spend your free time burning up chemicals in a science lab.
Cat Eye Glasses
Cat eye glasses have been in style since the 1950s and there is a reason they have stood the test of time: they are perfectly femme and absolutely adorable. Make sure to get a pair that has some details that help them to stand out – or even try to find a vintage pair.
Just make sure that if you do get a pair of vintage sunglasses that they offer you the protection you want.
Round
Round sunglasses tend to ebb and flow in terms of popularity, but they are back in style now. The great thing is that designers are getting a bit more creative and versatile when it comes to the word “round.” They are doing rounded shapes instead of just circles, which means you don’t have to worry too much about looking like a hippie.
While this might not be a pair to splurge on, it is a great addition to any collection.
Wayfarers
Of course, the classic shape that we all love is the wayfarer. While there are many iterations of this as well, it actually pays off because you can find the shape that best fits your face.
Once again, you can get these extremely cheap but here might be a place to splurge as you know this is never going to go out of style.
Whatever you do, avoid sunglasses that are comically large, overly blinged out, or just tacky. Those will never work.
